“Evan Baxter is on his way to Congress to “change the world.” Unfortunately, the only thing that seems to be changing is Evan’s address, the car he drives, and his ego. What Evan does not know is that God has some ideas of his own about how to accomplish that goal, and He has chosen Evan to be His man. He tells a skeptical Evan that He wants him to build an ark because a flood is coming. Reluctant at first, Evan finally warms to the project. Along the way, he learns to see things from God’s perspective. Through his obedience, Evan and his family learns lessons about how God works, how to trust Him, and how to persevere when the waters get rough.

“And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for [as for] this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which [are] in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring [them] unto me.

And all the people brake off the golden earrings which [were] in their ears, and brought [them] unto Aaron.

And he received [them] at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These [be] thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play. ” Exodus 32 verses 1-6 (KJV)

Let’s review what is happening here. Moses went up to the mount to be with God. The people grew restless being without him. Under the pressure of being without him, they went after his assistant, Aaron, and demanded that he fashion idols to worship. So here’s Aaron, senior pastor in Moses’ absence, bowing down to the will of the people instead of the will of God. Here’s one of our lessons: as much as we love God, we can miss it. Leaders aren’t exempt from the pressure of conformity.

Let’s examine what Aaron is doing. He mixed a little of Babylon (the idols) and mixed it with a little of worship. They were going to worship God through an idol. When the pressure came, the image of God they had in them manifested. But, when you try to mix Babylon with worship, there is no power. Sweet water and bitter water cannot exist at the same time. When they are mixed the water is bitter. And that is exactly what we try to do at church and wonder why “it’s not working”. It’s not working because on one hand you say what the world says about your situation and then you say what God says in His Word about the situation. So what do you have left? Your situation. You’re back to square one. You might not think you are worshipping an idol, but when you side with the voice or circumstance that is contrary to what God is telling you in His Word, who’s voice are you worshipping at that moment? It is idolatrous to put yourself, or any other voice, in God’s place. We are all guilty of this at one point or another.

We’ve all come to it in our lives. The point where we are under so much pressure those images inside of us, deep inside of us, bubbles out. This is our choke point. It is our struggle to go back to what is comfortable, Babylon – what we know, even if we know it isn’t true, than to press on in God. It is under extreme pressure that what we think comes forth. It is in the invisible root stage that comes out under pressure. Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18 verse 21). We can speak life into our situation (God’s Word) or speak death into it (what God didn’t say). Pressure will try to make you release words that keep you in bondage. Your situation may not get worse, but when it doesn’t get any better, aren’t you still tied?

Moses was no exception. Let’s read from Numbers, chapter 11, verses 18-23 (KJV):

“And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for [it was] well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.

Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;

[But] even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which [is] among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?

And Moses said, The people, among whom I [am], [are] six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.

Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?

And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD’S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.”

Before I go to Moses, I want to deal with the people:

When you don’t have a proper image of God, you even can read Scripture or hear it with the wrong interpretation. Here are the Israelites complaining about the miracle food that God provides, fresh every day, free, bagels from heaven (okay, not bagels – manna, but you know what I mean) and they think God brought them out of Egypt to kill them. Not seeing God, knowing God, for Who He really is will distort how you receive His Word. You can read further in Numbers chapter 23.

Now, back to Moses.

Moses, the leader, the one God used to bring the people out of bondage, has reached his choke point. He questions God’s ability to feed the people flesh. And not just feed them, send it in such excess that it will come through their nostrils. Or, in today’s terms, till they vomit. It’s estimated to be about three million people! They only counted the men back then. But with the wives and children, that’s a lot of mouths to feed.

Moses should know better, shouldn’t he? He was a witness to one of the grandest miracles ever performed. And yet, he couldn’t fathom God pulling this one off. It was his choke point. He was completely honest with God about his doubt that God can do it. It was too much for Moses. Where is your faith contaminated in doubt?

What situations are you dealing with that are having you believe there ain’t no way (I know it’s not proper English). I’m talking about when things around you are telling you that you won’t get that promotion. You won’t survive that cancer. You can’t give your tithe or you won’t be able to pay the rent. I’m talking about situations that look impossible. But God clearly states here: ” Is the LORD’S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.” It’s not you! It is God Who does the work. HE will do it. Release Him! Release His Word! Stand still and see the salvation of the LORD this day (Exodus 14). God will fight for you and give you the victory (Dueteronomy 20). You shall hold your peace! If God has said it, HE will do it. HE will make it good. You just need to stand. But for you to stand, you need to understand. So if you can’t stand, pray for understanding so you can stand under the pressure! The only thing that will get you through is the Word of God. Meditate on it day and night. The divine order of faith is in Mark 11 verse 24. You must believe you’ve got it before you physically have it. You must believe it’s a spiritual fact before it becomes a physical fact. What’s the point of believing you have it when you got it? Even a blind man can see that! But you must receive the Word of God as the absolute truth, no matter what facts are thrown at you. Take the picture of the promise in your mind. Slosh it around with the Word. Mix it with faith. The Israelites didn’t get into the promise land because they failed to mix the Word of God with faith. The picture you plant with the Word of God in your mind will come to physical manifestation, but you must be patient. Patient. Patient. God has to move it from the spiritual to the physical. Be patient and keep that photo in your mind. Slosh it around. And just like in a dark room, see that image spring up in due time!

Raquel Soto © February 23rd, 2005

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding…Proverbs 3 verse 5 (NIV) Trust. Such a little word. So easily broken. Trust causes comfort. Enables us to believe the unbelievable. To love.

Yet, we say we love God but we don’t trust Him. We don’t trust Him with our business. We don’t trust him for our husband. We don’t trust Him for our children. And the reason we don’t trust is because we don’t want to…

In ALL (emphasis added) your ways acknowledge Him and He SHALL (emphasis added) direct your path. Proverbs 3 verse 6

Surrender. We don’t like to surrender control, especially people in business. In this world, surrendering is a sign of weakness. God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than ours (Isa 55 v 9). To surrender to God isn’t weakness, it’s strength! It takes humility to know you don’t know everything and you need help. It takes courage to ask and say “I don’t know what I’m doing! HELP!” It takes wisdom to know you don’t know so you need to go to the One Who does know!

How can we start learning to trust God? Surrender. Surrender to His Word. Meditating the Word of God is important for this reason. Cast your cares upon Him for He cares for you (1 Peter 5 v 17)! To know this for yourself, experience it for yourself, you need to meditate, mutter, and speak out the Word. Speak what is already true. Speak the life giving Words of God. As you begin to think upon what God has said, you must decide that whatever God tells you to do, you do it. Decide that whatever He says is so.

When you trust, you believe. In what areas do you not believe God in? Be honest. We all have areas that we’ve only given so much to the Lord. Examine yourself. Surrender.

Know this: God will allow circumstances to come about where you will be tested to either trust Him or not to trust Him. Not because He needs to test you, but so that you know what He knows- you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength! You are victorious in Jesus! All your prayers are answered “Yes!” and “Amen!”. The enemy wants to root that Word out of you because it will prove to the people around you that God is alive today and working in the lives of His people. Dare to trust God! Dare to believe! Dare to take a step of faith and declare “If Your Word says it, I believe it, and that settles it!” Dare to stand still in the storm and shout ” I will not be moved in Jesus name! I receive the promises my Father has made to me! I trust in His Word! I surrender to His Word! I surrender to His Will!” So be it!

Raquel Soto © January 15th, 2005

Last week we learned about one of the weapons of our warfare: the Holy Spirit. The power of the Holy Spirit working upon us is one of the ways that God manifests His glory. This week, we are examining another weapon of our warfare: fasting.

Fasting is a tangible way of laying down your life for someone. Who is in bondage around you? Pay the price to set them free! Lay down what you want today and trust God for them. Go into the battle already won and enforce the law. As God prepares you for war, there are a few things to keep in mind:

Jesus expects you to fast (Matthew 6:16-17; Joel 2v12; II Corinthians 6:4-6)

Jesus said when you fast, not if. Fasting, like praying, needs to part of the Christian life. HE fasted and prayed to receive power and anointing for His ministry. That means you are as well.

When you fast, you will encounter three great temptations (Luke 4)

The enemy will question the Lord’s identity.

The enemy will tempt you to take a shortcut and do things his way instead of God’s.

The enemy will take Scripture out of context.

Fasting helps dissolve and remove those things in you that don’t belong

Have you ever noticed that when you fast, you might get a little bit touchy? Fretful? Worrisome? That’s because those things that are in you start to bubble out. It’s like putting yourself in a pressure cooker. If you want to know how you are really doing, go into a fast! You’d be surprise what’s in there that God wants to purge out!

There are twelve benefits to fasting (Isaiah 58:6-12)

Revelation

Healing and wholeness

Righteousness

The presence of the Shakinah Glory of God

Answered prayer

Continual guidance

Contentment

Refreshing

Strength

Work that endures

Raising up future generations

Restoration

What is God telling you to commit to? HE will give you the grace you need in order to fast. Is He calling you to do it once a month? Once every two or three months? Be obedient. Your obedience to fasting is one of the most feared weapons that befalls the kingdom of darkness. Demons are uncomfortable when we fast. They cannot stay around too long when a person is fasting unto God because it changes the atmosphere and repels the unholy. As you fast and seek God’s face He will begin to plant an authority in you that will effect how you pray. I remember when I was fasting recently for the upcoming Woman’s Conference. I prayed with such authority that I looked around to see who was speaking. It was me! When I was done I just praised the Lord knowing that women from all around are being prepared to receive what God has for them on the 16th! Glory to God!

There are many more things I can say about fasting, but time doesn’t permit it. Now that we’ve taken the mystery out of fasting, ask the Lord what you should commit to. Where has God placed you? In what area do you need the power of God to move in? What are the things in you that are entangling you from moving forward into your calling? Commit to a lifestyle of praying and fasting and you will receive the turn around you’ve been waiting for.

Raquel Soto © January 22nd 2005

A few weeks ago we had our neighbor, an orthodox Jew, come down for a visit. As he was walking out, he said something that struck me between the eyes: How could God want blood for forgiveness? Why must we choose Jesus? Can’t we just live a good life?

It was interesting to me how little he knew about the necessity of blood as told in Exodus. I just looked at this fragile man in my doorway and said, “Don’t you remember? The blood was necessary in Exodus in order for the Angel of death to pass over them. Don’t you remember what God required of the Israelites? That blood needed to be shed for their sins? Jesus is the perfect lamb. You will never need to shed the blood of an animal again for forgiveness. Jesus’ blood is now the only acceptable sacrifice…”

He just looked at me and said, “You’ve read Exodus?… I guess you’re right. I’ll need to think about it. Good night…” And off he went. How can someone who has the privilege of so much history know so little? I realized that many believers are in the same boat. They know the message of Jesus but don’t know how to communicate the answer to this question because they don’t really know it for themselves.

Soon spring will come and we will celebrate the event of our Risen Lord. Let’s prepare ourselves now to answer those we work with why the Blood of the Lamb was necessary, and still is.

A bit of background

In the original Passover, depicted to us in Exodus 12, we can see that the lamb had to be one without spot or blemish. In the same why, Jesus was that Lamb for us, without spot or blemish (1 Peter 1:19). It was the blood of the lamb applied to the doorway that saved them. If the Israelites had left the blood in a bowl outside of the door, the angel of death would have brought death to every firstborn child. It was not enough to know about the blood, it needed to be applied. It is interesting that God had them write the CHET “N” in blood. CHET in Hebrew stands for life. In a way, the blood on the entrance of the house insured that those inside would have life.

There is a death penalty to sin. Almost all things were purified with blood (Hebrews 9:22). Without blood there is no remission.

What’s our response?

What can we draw from this? It is not enough to know about the Blood, it must be applied to the doorway of our hearts. The Blood is ineffective to us if we do not apply it. The angel of death would still have authority over our lives when we don’t choose Jesus. When Jesus willfully allowed His Blood to be shed, He did it with the disposition of a lamb – deep humility and self-surrender. We are to be partakers of this disposition and express His lamb-like nature. Jesus wants to reproduce Himself in us (Galatians 5:22,23). And since the penalty for sin is death, Jesus made Himself the once-and-for-all sacrifice to bring us back to the Father. Below are some privileges because of the Blood:

· The Blood makes peace between God and man. Colossians 1:20

· The Blood gives us forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Colossians 1:14

· Satan is overcome by the Blood. Revelation 12:11

· The Blood gives us continual cleansing from all sin for us. John 1:7

· We are set free from the tyranny of an evil conscience to serve the Living God. Hebrews 9:12-14

· The Blood allows us to now enter the Holies of Holies of God’s presence and live there all the day. Hebrews 10:19-20

When you sin, remember the cost. Sin’s root is pride in some form. Recognize the source and specifically repent. Be set free by the Blood that was shed for you by the Living God. Apply it once again to the doorway of your heart and be cleansed. Be set free. The once-and-for-all answer to freedom is in the Blood.

As I was seeking the Lord and asking Him what He would like me to say for this week, He turned my thoughts toward two things happening in the entertainment area: one show on television about a medium who “helps” the police catch the bad guy; and movies about the “supernatural”.

I was reminded that these “gifts” are created to turn the hearts away from the One that created them. It doesn’t start off that way. But eventually, once you open the door, you’re hooked to see what the next step it is you should do in your life. It can be comforting having someone telling you what to do next to be successful in any area of your life! You’ll consult your physic before consulting God. Before you know it, you’ve replaced God with a counterfeit.

There is only One Spirit of God. During this time when our Father is turning the hearts of the people, it is the third part of the trinity that is most imitated. We’re bombarded with physics, mediums, astrology, and the like. But in order to understand why these are counterfeits and know how to respond to this in the business world, we need to understand the power they are trying to imitate. The Holy Spirit is a powerful force that manifests the Word of God. Let’s look in the Word this week and see some things the Bible has to say about the ministry of the Holy Spirit:

It is the powerful work of the Holy Spirit that made you a new creature. (John 16v7, 12-15; 1 John 3v2, 1 John 5v1; Luke 15v7,10)

The Holy Spirit eradicates spiritual death in us when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Heaven rejoices because of our changed nature! We are literally born of God now because of the Holy Spirit comes to dwell inside of us. The Spirit within us enables revelation of God. We are able to walk in a new life because of Him.

There is a difference between the Spirit within and the Spirit upon (Luke 24v29, Acts 1v4-5,8,Acts 10v38;Acts 5v12-16)

Jesus was anointed with the Holy Ghost and power. Since we are called to be his disciples, and are called to not only continue the mission but exceed His works (John 14v10&12), it would stand to reason in order for us to do it, we need the same anointing. The endowment of power is necessary to carry out what Jesus sets before you (Mark 16v15-20; Matthew 28v18-20).

In Acts 1v8: the word translated as “power” is the Greek word “dunamis”, where we get dynamite from. Dunamis means ability and might. Because of the power available to us, we have the ability and the might of God to do what He’s called us to do. The Spirit within us is for our own personal life (Galatians 5v22-23; John 4v14). We are to bear the fruit of the Spirit that lives within us.

The Spirit upon us is for service (John 7v38-39). It’s to help those around us. The well is for your own life (river flowing) and the out of you part is for others! It ‘s the power of the Holy Spirit operating upon you that gives evidence to the world that Jesus is raised from the dead and alive today (Acts 1v8).

We know that these two things are different because believers received an endowment later (Acts 8v16-17; Acts 19v2; Acts 19v5-6). God not only wants to guide you from the inside out, but wants to give you the power and might to do what He’s called you to do!

Just like salvation, you receive your endowment by faith (Galatians 3v14). The Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth, so depend on Him (1 Corinthians 2v9-10). The heart of God is revealed through this ministry of the Holy Spirit. He will teach you all things (John 14v26). There is no limit of spiritual knowledge with the Holy Spirit (John 16v12-13). Most importantly, Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit to you (John 16v7).

You are not left to your talents and intellect to get your calling done. You have available to you the power of the Holy Spirit! If you’ve already received by faith your endowment, then commit to activate it every day that you are here! No matter how you “feel”, praise God that you have it. Walk in His power today!

Haven’t received the endowment of the Spirit upon? Meditate on the following Scriptures and say that you can as a believer of the Most High God and act in line with God’s word: Luke 11 v 9-13 Acts 2 v 4 Acts 10 v 44-46 1 Corinthians 14 v 2, 4 Romans 8 v 26-27 Jude 20 1 Corinthians 14 v14 Mark 16 v 17 John 14 v 16

Ask and you shall receive!

Now that you have the power, act like it! Go and do the work of God He’s called you to do. Now that you have access to be taught all things, go do it! You’ve been waiting on God all this time and all this time He’s been waiting on you! Trust Him today!

I love Psalm 91. It has so many beautiful promises of the Lord in it. Long life. Deliverance. Protection. Freedom from worry. But like prophecy, the promises of God are conditional. God has done His part, and now, we must do ours. The secret to the promises in Psalm 91 is listed in verse one: “… Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty…” (KJV)

Shadow. We normally think of things being hidden in a shadow as something sinister. We link it with being in the dark and even something cold. But here, being in the shadow is were we want to be. Think of it for a moment. How close do you need to be to someone to be in their shadow? Any more than a few steps in any direction from them, and you cast your own. And, as you know, when we do things on our own, away from the protection of God’s shadow, it doesn’t work out the way we planned.

Being in the shadow of the Almighty is a tricky thing. There is a danger to not even notice we aren’t in the warmth of it any longer until something happens. It is so easy to allow the cares of the day to eat up our time. We can then, slowly but surely, start to draw away from the shadow. We don’t even realize God is going into a different direction. Staying that close to God is a daily choice. We must choose to be in the shadow. We must choose God daily.

How can we stay in the warmth of God’s shadow? We can do this by keeping our heart toward Him. Here is one thing you can do to stay in His shadow:

· This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. (Joshua 1:8 KJV)

Meditate on the Word of God. The root for the word meditate is the word “twot”, which Strong’s defines as: ” to moan, growl, utter, muse, mutter, meditate, speak, to roar, groan”. Speak the Word! Growl it! Mutter it! I like the roaring part myself. Spending time in the Word is spending time with God, for Jesus was the Word made flesh (John 1:14 ). If you don’t think you have time to put God’s Word first, think again! How much time do you put music on when you are driving? Why not switch the music for the Word? There are tapes and CD’s available that you can pop in. You can even get them specialized on a certain book or certain parts of the Bible you’ve been wanting to study. There are devotionals that are created specifically for business-women that you can read. One of my favorite’s is Mike Murdock’s “1 Minute Businesswoman’s Devotional”. One minute isn’t enough, but it’s something you can do when you first wake up to start your day on the Word.

What do you do when you take a shower? Do you just let your thoughts wonder about? Why not pop something in that will keep you focused on God? Putting on your favorite worship CD is also something you can do.

Praise is a powerful weapon against the enemy. It takes the focus off us and unto the Almighty. How wonderful it is to sing praises to the King! What a privilege it is to have the attention of the Most High as you worship Him! Don’t know what to sing? Sing the Word! Open up the book of Psalms and start to sing! Psalms 92 is a song for the Sabbath day. Why not start there?

You must remember one thing: meditation is powerful. What you meditate on you will eventually do or have. It is the way God created us. It works for our benefit if you let it. It’s interesting to note that part of meditation is imagining. What you imagine will be. That is why we are to put our thoughts in line with God’s. God’s will is His Word, and we must choose to meditate on it, day and night, so that we will have good success. Imagine the promises of God manifesting in your life as you speak them, mutter them, think on them! Keep on sowing the Word into your life so that, in due season, you will reap. “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”(Romans 10:17 KJV) So purify your faith by speaking the Word to yourself and release His Word back to Him!

So go ahead. Stay in the shadow. And roar in your success!

As I was listening to one of my favorite preachers, I heard him quote Ephesians 6 verse 13 in a way that was so new to me, I just had to search it out for myself. What I found in the original Hebrew just fired me up so much, I’m bringing it to you!

In the King James Version, this is written like this:

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

In the Hebrew, the following words have a more descriptive definition. Like all definitions, they list more than one meaning. As I was asking the Lord which meaning He wanted to show me, this is what I saw:

Hebrew Word (English) – Definition

Dia (wherefore) Because of this reason

Touto (with wherefore) This/That thing

Analambano (take unto you) Take up a thing to use it

Panoplia (the whole armor) Full armor

Hina (that) In order that

Dunami (you may be able) You have power by permission of law; to do something; to be capable, strong, and powerful

Poneros (the evil) Full of labors, annoyances, hardships

Hemera (day) Time

Katergazomai (having done) Work out

Histemi (to stand) To cause a person or a thing to keep his or it’s place

With this fresh information, the Hebrew reads more like:

Because of this reason take up this thing; use the full armor of God in order that you have power by permission of law to do something; to be capable, strong, powerful to oppose the full of labors, annoyances, hardships day and workout all to cause you to keep your place…

What is the permission of law? God’s laws. Everything is governed by spiritual law. It is the mother to everything that is birthed. It is the place where seeds are planted. And when they come to fruitition, it bears fruit in the natural plane. Everything is seedtime and harvest.

What is your place? In Christ, you are seated at the right hand of the Father (Matt 20:23; Matt 25:34; Acts 2:33; Galatians 2:20). The right hand of the Father is the seat of Victory! Our enemy wants you to look at the circumstances and the arrows of accusations against God (this goes to for His Word, for you cannont seperate them) so that you take your eyes off the fact that you are ALREADY victorious in Christ. You are coming from a victory, not to one. Rise up, daughters of Eve! For you have been redeemed by the lover of your soul. Rise up and speak the victory over your circumstances this day! Over your loved ones! Over your churches. Speak, daughters of Eve! For your fiance, Jesus the Christ, has set you free to take your place as His Bride and oppose the labors, annoyances, and hardships of your day! Do all you know to do, then keep your place and enter into the peace that passes all understanding!

Glory to God

Amen
